When I first meet new clients, I usually tell them that, by the end of their counseling here, I expect them to be able to answer two questions:

Who am I?  and
Why do I do what I do?

That's pretty much what psychotherapy is:  a quiet hour to let you think and talk about yourself, and come to those answers.  There's relief in just being able to sit down and tell your story to a stranger; someone who isn't connected to your daily life.  Someone whose job it is to be objective, yet still be on your side.

Our counseling experience is a partnership.  I will not demand that you say or do anything that you don't want to.  But I can assure you that I will help you as much as you let me.

Who I am, and Why I do what I do

I earned a BS in Psychology from SUNY Oneonta, and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from SUNY Albany.  Most of my clients find me through an insurance of physician referral, friends who've been here, or online.

I also provide Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services to various employers, including hospitals, industries, and government agencies.

Here's a link to a brochure that describes EAP services in more detail.
You can also contact me for additional information.

I'm certified by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to do DWI evaluations and treatment.  I'm also certified by the United States Department of Transportation to conduct evaluations and/or treatment for DOT employees who are suspected of having a substance abuse problem.

I've always liked listening to people's stories.  Being able to listen and know how to offer help that can change people's lives for the better -- that's an opportunity and blessing that I take very seriously.
